Shipping Center with Nine Halls
The Otto Group has opened a new logistics center in the small Polish town of Iłowa. According to the retail group’s press release, the foundation stone for the facility was laid nearly two and a half years ago.
The site is described as one of the most modern and largest logistics hubs in Europe, according to the Otto Group. Regarding the investment amount, the group only hints in its press release at a mid-three-digit million euro sum.
Michael Otto, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Otto Group, said during the opening: “The Otto Group is a truly European company. With 80 percent of our revenue generated here, we are the largest e-commerce company of European origin. We firmly believe in a strong Europe and a prosperous future.” He added that the European internal market is a key foundation of the Otto Group’s success. The company views the Iłowa site as another crucial node in the group’s logistics ecosystem.
Usable Area of 268,000 Square Meters
According to the Otto Group, the new shipping center is located on a 260,000-square-meter plot. The building complex consists of nine halls, with a total usable area of 268,000 square meters, as stated in the press release.
The most important feature of the shipping center, according to Otto, is a state-of-the-art pouch sorter. This system enables efficient and automated order picking.
The new logistics center is operated by the Polish company Hermes Fulfilment Sp. z o.o., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hamburg-based Hermes Fulfilment Group, according to the company.
