Kloepfel Benelux newcomer to the Dutch market
Germany’s Kloepfel Consulting in Düsseldorf, with offices in Switzerland, Austria, and several countries in Eastern Europe, has launched a strategic partnership with the Dutch Procurement Services (Houten, Leeuwarden, Eindhoven) in 2019. Under the name Kloepfel Benelux, the procurement consultancy firm operates from Houten. Kloepfel Benelux specializes in Direct Material Optimization and responds to the increasing demand for international procurement advice.
Direct Material Optimization (DMO) in two stages
In the face of globalization for the Dutch manufacturing industry to maintain its competitive position, there is an increasing demand for support in international procurement and access to international sourcing networks such as found in Eastern Europe. With teams in that region, Kloepfel Benelux can accurately respond to requests from Dutch industries, while also providing market knowledge and benchmarks of more than 1,200 projects carried out by the Kloepfel Group, particularly in manufacturing. Kloepfel Benelux’ DMO approach consists of two stages. The first aims at better control and understanding of the supply chain in combination with short-term savings and the second stage of structural-, long-term process improvements.
Two experienced procurement executives in charge
At the helm of Kloepfel Benelux are two experienced procurement executives. Peter Smit has been a partner and managing director since the founding of Kloepfel Benelux in 2019. As of October 1st, 2020, Maarten Erasmus joined the board as second partner.

Peter Smit, former procurement director Lely Industries
Peter Smit, partner at Kloepfel Benelux since its foundation in May 2019, previously worked as procurement director at the international company Lely Industries as a client of both Kloepfel and Procurement Services. After joining Kloepfel Consulting in Germany he was responsible for various projects in the German manufacturing industry and since 2019 he has taken the lead to launch Kloepfel Benelux with Martijn Heijmans (director/owner at Procurement Services) as co-director. From October 2020, the latter role will be taken over by Maarten Erasmus and the company will continue with a two-headed leadership. The short term aim is to become the leading procurement consultancy to the manufacturing industry in the Netherlands.
Maarten Erasmus, former Managing Consultant at Emeritor
Maarten Erasmus, the new partner of Kloepfel Benelux from October 2020, previously worked at Emeritor, where he executed around 20 procurement programs in manufacturing, healthcare, and banking. Prior to that, he was procurement director in the automotive and plastics industry and at Philips International. Maarten brings in a wealth of knowledge about organizational- and process design and robust project management. His choice for Kloepfel Benelux is not coincidence. In the Netherlands there is no specialist provider of procurement consultancy to the manufacturing industry, whilst there is a significant demand for it. “We can leverage a wealth of experience. In Germany and Eastern Europe, Kloepfel Consulting has delivered more than 1,200 projects to the manufacturing industry – one of the firm’s powerhouse sectors in Germany,” said Maarten.
Collaboration with Procurement Services for NPR and Logistics
Evidence suggests there is still a lot to be gained in the manufacturing industry for Non-Product-Related procurement and logistics. This is the niche of Procurement Services. Being perfectly complementary, the two companies have joined forces, so they can cover any procurement category.
Long-term co-operation as objective
Kloepfel Benelux advises clients on their overall procurement strategy of direct materials, out-stretching a quick wins only approach. There is a strong focus on structural improvements that strengthen the organization on the long term. Direct procurement is a key factor for the price and quality of the final product. This makes the direct procurement of strategic importance and requires extensive co-operation with both technical disciplines and management.
Since the successful start in 2019 at Nooteboom Trailers in Wijchen, Kloepfel Benelux now works for various companies in the manufacturing industry in the Netherlands.
