New intermodal connection between Kyiv and Duisburg
Duisport has announced a strategic partnership with Joint Stock Company (JSC) Ukrainian Railways. This collaboration will enable regular intermodal traffic between Ukraine and the Duisburg hub, as well as other European Union countries. Additionally, there are plans for further joint development.
Markus Bangen, Duisport CEO, stated: “With this strategic partnership, we are supporting Ukraine in becoming more strongly connected with European markets. As one of the most important logistics hubs in the heart of Europe, we want to leverage the strengths of our extensive network to establish fast and stable supply chains between Ukraine and Western and Central Europe.”
Growing trade volumes
The collaboration is driven by the current increase in trade volumes and the growing demand for freight transport between the EU and Ukraine. Ukrainian exports by rail have risen by almost 50 percent in the first four months of this year, with a significant portion of this destined for Europe.
Duisport plans to launch the new intermodal connection between Kyiv and Duisburg starting this summer, with continuous expansion in the future.
Through this, Ukraine aims to further integrate into the European rail network. Ukrainian Railways intends to establish partnerships with multiple European partners to strengthen its presence in the European market. According to the information provided, Ukrainian goods can reach various destinations in Europe from Duisburg, making Duisport an ideal partner for Ukrainian Railways.
