Battery-electric tractor unit for more sustainability
Logistics company DB Schenker will be adding 100 battery-electric trucks from Mercedes-Benz to its fleet. The Mercedes eActros LongHaul model will be used. A letter of intent has been signed between DB Schenker and Mercedes-Benz Trucks, as both companies recently reported.
Sustainability strategy of DB Schenker
According to Cyrille Bonjean, Head of Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe, the logistics provider aims to become the world’s leading provider of green logistics. This goal can be pursued further by expanding the electric fleet. With the eActros LongHaul, it is now possible to use battery-electric vehicles on long-distance routes in practice.
Range of approximately 500 km
Mercedes-Benz Trucks states that the eActros LongHaul model will be ready for series production in 2024. DB Schenker will take over the aforementioned electric trucks from the start of series production, according to the logistics company’s press release.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks estimates a range of about 500 kilometers for the eActros LongHaul, without the need for intermediate charging. The commercial vehicle manufacturer also promises a mileage of 1.2 million kilometers over ten operating years for the model.
In summary, Cyrille Bonjean, Head of Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe, says, “It is important for us to take responsibility for the environment and to drive forward ecological solutions.”
