Fully Automated High-Bay Warehouse at the Production Site in Otrokovice
Continental recently inaugurated a fully automated high-bay warehouse at its tire production site in Otrokovice, Czech Republic.
With this facility, the tire manufacturer, according to its own statements, centralizes its local warehouses in the Otrokovice area, thereby improving Continental’s logistics processes. At the same time, the company also reduces its CO2 emissions.
Sustainable Logistics, Environmentally Friendly Supply Chain
During the grand opening of the building, Bernhard Trilken, Head of Production and Logistics for Continental’s tire division, stated: “Sustainable logistics is key to a resource-efficient and environmentally friendly supply chain.”
Continental continuously and systematically reduces the ecological footprint of its logistical operations, according to its press release. To achieve this, the tire manufacturer focuses on integrating new technologies and optimizing storage capacities and routes. The company also utilizes renewable energies. According to Continental’s explanations, the goal of these measures is to handle limited resources as efficiently as possible.
Digitalization and Automation
According to Continental, the new warehouse is 43 meters high. The building can store over 930,000 tires on a space of more than 10,000 square meters. Mobile forklifts reportedly automatically move the palletized tires through the warehouse area.
Continental emphasizes that the company consistently invests in the digitalization and automation of global manufacturing across its 20 tire plants in 16 countries worldwide. The focus includes the continuous overall efficiency of logistics processes.
