Continental Mobile Robots and Amazon Web Services partner up
Continental Mobile Robots is collaborating with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop new software solutions for autonomous mobile robots (AMR). This will enable flexible control of Continental’s software package, which is used in the fields of intralogistics and agriculture.
“The innovation-driven services from AWS help us produce state-of-the-art mobile robots with high safety and great reliability. The platform has already been successfully deployed in initial customer applications in the intralogistics sector,” said Rahul Singh, Global Head of AMR Software at Continental.
The goal is to further enhance the technological infrastructure for AMRs.
Improved control and monitoring
The software is based on a cloud-based platform. This enables functions such as remote maintenance and monitoring of the robots through simulations. Additionally, the software package leverages cloud computing and artificial intelligence to ensure safe navigation of the robots.
Through this partnership, customers are given the ability to efficiently manage the robots throughout their entire lifecycle. The solutions can be flexibly adapted to specific industry requirements.
AWS supports this by providing advanced features, such as serverless computing.
Intralogistics and agriculture
Continental Mobile Robots is part of the automotive division of Continental.
The focus areas for autonomous mobile robots are intralogistics and agriculture.
Intralogistics AMRs are already being used in Europe, Asia, and North America. These improve material flow, minimize errors, and reduce labor shortages as well as operational costs.
The agricultural AMRs are expected to hit the market by the end of 2024. According to the information provided, these offer a self-driving platform for use in greenhouses, capable of performing various tasks autonomously.
