Expansion of the Airbus A321F freighter route network in the north

Lufthansa Cargo is strengthening its presence in the Nordic region by expanding the Airbus A321F freighter’s route network to Helsinki and Copenhagen. Lufthansa Cargo freighters will reportedly fly from Frankfurt to Copenhagen via Helsinki from September 27, 2023.

This will create direct connections from Frankfurt to more than 300 global destinations and add additional flights to existing connections.

    Expansion of route networks

Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Iceland are of great importance for international freight traffic due to their location between Europe and North America. Exports are mainly technology products, pharmaceuticals, machinery and seafood. To increase transport capacities, Lufthansa Cargo plans to establish an additional flight connection to Stockholm soon.

“Our strategic goal is to further expand our network and logistics in the Nordic countries in order to offer even shorter transport times as well as reliable and customized solutions for our customers,” explains Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo.

Lufthansa Cargo also informs about the expansion of its intercontinental route network with 83 weekly flights starting this winter. In total, this will enable more than 6,000 flights operated by various Lufthansa Group airlines.

    Airbus A321F freighters

Lufthansa Cargo currently operates three Airbus A321F freighters, which it says have proven to be an efficient transport option. It said it plans to expand the fleet to a total of four aircraft by late summer.

The Airbus A321 freighter features advanced technology and fuel efficiency on medium-haul routes, it said. The total payload is 28 tons and significantly increases cargo capacity in the region.

“We are very pleased with the expansion of the new connections. They reflect what we want to offer with our A321F fleet: Fast, cross-border services whose routing as well as schedule are precisely tailored to the requirements of our customers and their transportation needs,” explains Bhat.
