AI technology to optimize the supply chain

Retailer Douglas has decided to digitize its entire supply chain management. According to the press release, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven software from provider Relex Solutions will be used for this purpose.

    Broad field of application

The digitization is to encompass the purchasing of all products from all suppliers. As a result, Douglas expects to improve merchandise availability and inventory in its online stores and stores.

The company will also use AI to increase the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and optimize individual product placements in stores. Likewise, Douglas expects to use AI to improve workforce planning for logistics, locations and stores.

    More accurate forecast quality

According to Douglas’ statements, the forecasting quality of the software improves over time. According to the statement, the forecast quality is increasingly gaining accuracy due to the machine learning algorithms. Thus, the company’s entire supply chain is becoming highly efficient and more agile thanks to the use of AI.

Commenting on this digitalization step, Christian Korte, COO of Douglas, says: “AI-based technologies offer Douglas a decisive competitive advantage by improving the performance of our supply chain. Their digital transformation supports our strong e-commerce growth.”

    Digital First

By its own account, digitalization is of strategic importance to Douglas. Accordingly, the retailer is now integrating its online stores, Marketplace and stores on a digitally connected, data-driven beauty platform under the premise of “Digital First.” Tina Müller, CEO of Douglas Group emphasizes, “Digital First is our basic attitude.”

Douglas sees itself as Europe’s leading premium platform. The company operates various online stores and more than 2000 stores with a total assortment of over 100,000 products.
