Ports are among the most dangerous workplaces in industry. High accident risks arise during container handling and automated processes – traditional safety measures often reach their limits. The central question: how can safety be increased without compromising efficiency and productivity?

Why funding is crucial in port logistics

Ports are among the most hazardous industrial environments. Loading and unloading ships, handling containers, and automated transport processes constantly create high-risk situations. In particular, conventional safety measures such as barriers, cameras, or warning signs reach their limits in digitalized facilities.

The challenge: how can safety be enhanced without losing efficiency and productivity?

The project: an innovative safety system for critical logistics zones

A medium-sized company in port logistics developed a novel safety system with predictive hazard analysis. Sensors and smart software monitor movements in high-risk areas in real time, analyze signals, and intervene early before collisions occur.

Eligible under the Research Allowance Act: EPSA makes it possible

Together with EPSA, the project was identified as eligible for R&D funding. Requirements included technical uncertainties, a systematic approach, and an innovative solution. All criteria for the research allowance were met.

EPSA managed the entire funding process, from identifying eligible components to preparing the application documentation and liaising with the certification office. The result: €1,000,000 in tax-free research grants for the project.

The impact: greater safety, smoother operations, strengthened competitiveness

    The results speak for themselves:

    • Significantly reduced accident risk in sensitive areas
    • No need for additional barriers
    • Optimized workflows without operational interruptions
    • Improved compliance with occupational safety regulations
    • Innovation advantage in the market

EPSA as a success factor for funded innovation projects

Government funding made the decisive difference: no delays, no extra effort, and the maximum funding amount secured. This was made possible by EPSA’s structured and audit-proof funding strategy.
